Garden Beach is a small, independent beachfront property in a real Zanzibar village. If you're looking for a polished international resort where every room is identical, every sound is controlled and everything happens on demand, we're probably not your place. Our eight rooms are different. Some have air-conditioning; some are fan-cooled. Some are closer to the restaurant and the life around it. If you're a very light sleeper, tell us — we'd much rather help you choose the right room before you arrive. Jambiani has its own rhythm. Power, water and internet can occasionally be interrupted. Food is prepared to order and sometimes things take a little longer than they would back home. And then there's the Indian Ocean. It comes and goes. At low tide it can retreat astonishingly far, exposing sandbanks, seaweed and the working coastline. A few hours later it can be practically at our doorstep. We don't control the tides, the wind, the seaweed or the weather — and wouldn't particularly want to. You'll hear village life. You'll hear the nearby call to prayer. There may be music from the restaurant. You will hear happy children at the school next door. Things won't always behave like they do in a large resort. But if you'd rather have eight different rooms, tropical gardens, people who know your name, breakfast near the ocean and Zanzibar with some of its edges left intact, then yes. You're probably exactly our kind of guest.
