Village Life
Jambiani isn’t outside the hotel. It’s all around you. Morning starts early here. Fishermen head out with the tide. Seaweed farmers cross the reef. Children make their way to school. And the call to prayer from the mosque next door marks the rhythm of the day.
Garden Beach Bungalows sits right inside village life, on Zanzibar’s southeast coast. This isn’t the Zanzibar you visit on an excursion. It’s the one you wake up in.

The Ocean Doesn't Do Repeats
Between Garden and Sea
Garden Beach sits where tropical gardens meet Jambiani Beach on Zanzibar’s southeast coast. Follow the pathways through palms and tropical greenery and you’ll find shady corners, quiet places to sit and bungalows tucked among the leaves. Keep walking and the garden simply runs out — replaced by white sand, the changing tides of Jambiani Beach and the Indian Ocean beyond. Two sides of Zanzibar, with only a few barefoot steps between them.

Every pair has a story
During Covid, the owners fell in love, packed up their lives and moved to Zanzibar in search of something simpler.
They found it in Jambiani.
Life here moved differently. Days followed the tides. People knew each other. The Indian Ocean was part of the neighbourhood, and having less to rush towards somehow made room for more of what mattered.
Today, Garden Beach Bungalows and Lost Soles Lodge share the same owners, the same stretch of Jambiani and a slightly different idea of a good holiday.
Garden Beach is the quieter one. Eight individual rooms tucked between tropical gardens and the Indian Ocean. More privacy. More shade. A little more room to disappear.
Lost Soles Lodge is its more social sibling. Relaxed, barefoot and built for travellers who like a little more life around them — from private rooms and family stays to backpacker beds.
Same ocean. Same village. Different ways to stay.

Zanzibar has its own way of doing things. The tide decides when the reef appears. The weather occasionally changes the plan. A coconut takes as long as a coconut takes. And life in Jambiani carries on whether anyone remembered to put it in the itinerary or not. Garden Beach Bungalows is part of that world, not separate from it. Come curious. Leave a little room in the plan. Zanzibar usually fills it.
You’ll hear these words often in Zanzibar. At Garden Beach, we mean them:
Karibu Sana.
(You are very welcome.)
Not the polished, rehearsed kind of welcome. The kind where people learn your name, breakfast becomes familiar, and after a few days you stop feeling quite so much like a visitor. Come as a guest. Settle in at your own pace. Karibu sana.

Morning begins with breakfast and nowhere you urgently need to be. The pool makes a convincing argument for staying exactly where you are.
By afternoon, you might wander onto Jambiani Beach, follow the tide, find a shady spot in the garden or order something cold and reconsider whatever plans you thought you had.
Then the light changes, drinks appear, dinner becomes a possibility and another Zanzibar day quietly gets away with doing very little.
Funny how full a day can feel when you stop trying to fill it.

Good food has earned a reputation around here.
Come for Jambiani. Stay for dinner.
Breakfast is included with every stay, but our kitchen has earned a reputation of its own. Fresh seafood, generous plates, local Zanzibar flavours and a chef whose food guests regularly remember long after check-out.
From breakfast overlooking Jambiani Beach to dinner and drinks as the day winds down, eating well is part of staying at Garden Beach.
Good food deserves a little more time.
The Team
The People Make the Place
A small hotel becomes very personal, very quickly. Someone remembers how you take your coffee. Someone knows which table you like. Someone notices you’ve come back from the beach hungry before you’ve had the chance to mention it.That kind of hospitality isn’t written into a script at Garden Beach. It comes from people who genuinely care whether you’re having a good time.
